ABOUT US

ARLIS/NA New England is a regional chapter of the Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS/NA), a professional organization founded in 1972 to address the concerns of art information specialists.

Who are we?

We are librarians, archivists, technologists, booksellers, artists, art historians, students, and more. We share an interest in art libraries, art books, and the people and institutions that create and care for them.

What do we do?

  • We organize local meetups, tours, and other events. Browse upcoming and past events here.
  • We distribute a number of scholarships and awards annually.
  • We support local MLIS/MLS students exploring art librarianship through mentoring and discounted membership in our chapter.
  • We maintain a low-volume listserv that is open to all.

We support ARLIS/NA’s core values:

  • ARLIS/NA believes that lives are enriched by engagement with the visual arts, design, and cultural heritage.
  • ARLIS/NA believes that art information professionals are uniquely equipped to serve the art information needs of a broad audience for education, scholarship, and artistic practice.
  • ARLIS/NA believes that diversity and inclusion in all aspects of the profession strengthens the practice of art librarianship, and enriches library collections and user experiences.
