Fall Chapter business meeting & meet up

We’re also holding an in-person meetup for our New England chapter on Monday, October 24th from 10am to noon at the Peabody Essex Museum’s library in Rowley, MA! Our chapter pal Dan Lipcan and his colleagues have graciously agreed to host us, with lunch to follow. Please fill out this form if you’d like to attend so we can get an accurate headcount and keep you informed of plans.

2021 Fall Chapter Meeting (hybrid) Oct.21-22

We are trying something new! This year’s fall meeting will be hybrid and split over two days. The fall chapter business meeting will be fully virtual on Thursday, October 21st with an in person meet up in Amherst/Northampton on Friday October 22nd for those who feel comfortable traveling.

10 – 11 am: Business Meeting (see agenda)

11:15 am – noon: Presentation from Five College Museum Collections Management Commons (MCMC) Project Manager, Erin Richardson, and Data Specialist, Carrie Evans. 

Erin and Carrie will speak about the exciting work they are doing to help the Five Colleges and Historic Deerfield plan to migrate data from its current museum database MimsyXG and public portal (museums.fivecolleges.edu) to a new one with improved data consistency, interoperability across platforms, and reduced bias in subject headings. There will be time for Q&A at the end.

Friday in person meet up

10:30-11:30 am:   Tours of the Yiddish Book Center (meet at the Yiddish Book Center entrance at 10:30).   Note there is plenty of parking at the Book Center (the YBC has waived the admission fee for our group but donations are welcome)

11:30- 1 pm:  Lunch right across the road at Atkins Farms  (there are lots of outdoor picnic tables in addition to indoor seating, so if the weather’s nice, we can eat outside

1:00-2:00 pm:   Tours of the Eric Carle Museum (right across from Atkins)

2:00 pm– head over to Smith College Botanical gardens if you’d like to tour on your own! (a 20 minute drive).    ($2 suggested admission)

If you plan to join us, you need to do two things – ASAP!:

1.  Please R.S.V.P. to chapter president Rachel Beckwith (rbeckwith [at] hampshire [dot] edu) if you plan to come so that we can have a list of names for our group for each museum.   

2.  Purchase your ticket for the Eric Carle through their website on Eventbrite.  You will choose the Friday, October 22, 1-4 pm time slot.  They will definitely sell out as they have limited tickets, so they recommend doing this 2 weeks in advance which is NOW!

Bookworks Meetup – Thursday, November 14th, 2019

Join ARLIS/NA New England for a meetup with colleagues at the Bookworks exhibition at Tufts. We will speak with curator Dina Deitsch and Darin Murphy of the SMFA library at Tufts, look at the work on display, and then head over to Semolina for dinner/drinks with anyone who would like to join.

Fall Chapter Meeting – Friday, October 11, 2019

Join us on October 11, 2019 at the Mystic Seaport Museum for the chapter’s fall meeting! We’ll hold a business meeting, hear updates and news from ARLIS/NA New England colleagues, and explore the museum (including the J.M.W Turner exhibition!).

Fall Joint Chapter Meeting, ARLIS/NE and VRA/NE – Friday, October 12, 2018

You are invited to attend the Fall 2018 joint chapter meeting between ARLIS/NE and VRA-NE, to be held at the Worcester Art Museum (WAM) in Worcester, MA on Friday, October 12, 2018.

Sarah Gillis, Associate Registrar for Collection Documentation at WAM, and VRA/NE Chapter Chair, has planned a great day for all of us.  Along with having time to meet and catch up with colleagues, we will have the chance to tour the museum’s current exhibition, The Poetry of Nature: Hudson River School Landscape from the New York Historical Society, along with the Salisbury Mansion.  Time is also set aside for a lightning round session to discuss current issues in our work.  Please see the agenda for the day’s program.

We look forward to seeing everyone on October 12th!

August 10th | Trip to the deCordova Sculpture Garden & Museum and the Gropius House

Please join us for a tour of the deCordova Sculpture Garden and Museum and Gropius House in Lincoln, MA on Friday, August 10th.

10 a.m. – 12 noon – Visit the deCordova Sculpture Garden and Museum (51 Sandy Pond RD Lincoln, MA)

12 noon – 2 p.m. – Lunch (bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the deCordova grounds or visit a nearby restaurant)

2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. – Visit the Gropius House (68 Baker Bridge RD Lincoln, MA)

Cost:

ARLIS NE will pay $10.00 toward chapter members’ entrance fees to help defray the cost of the visit.  You are welcome to bring guests, however, the $10.00 reimbursement is limited to chapter members.
